2011 ends on a down note
As Liv-ex reports in its January Market Report 2011 was a very hard year for winebuyers. Here a summary from this neccessary website for wineenthusiasts: After six months of price falls, the fine wine market finished the year on a negative note. Prices contracted in the last week of December and the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index fell four per cent month on month. With buyers retreating in the run-up to Christmas, exchange turnover declined by a third on November. The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100—the fine wine industry's leading benchmark—fell 3.9 per cent last month. The index lost 14.9 per cent for the year and closed at 286. First Growth price drops saw the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 lose 5.0 per cent in December—its fourth-largest dip since January 2000. Encumbered by third and fourth quarter falls, the index declined 16.6 per cent year on year.
